FAQs

seminar-leaders

I’m not a native Japanese speaker. Will I receive Japanese language support?

Yes! We try our best to provide information in both English & Japanese. However, keep in mind events mainly targeting high schoolers may only be held in Japanese.

Will somebody help me design my seminar?

Yes! Past SLs, your HL partner, and staff will help you from start to finish.

Do I have to base my seminar off of a class that I’ve taken in college?

Not necessarily, but we highly recommend it. Building a seminar from scratch with no reading materials or previous experience can be challenging.

How do I reach Kanazawa?

You can search for routes on Hyperdia.

From Komatsu Airport (KMQ)

From Tokyo Station

  • Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen (Kagayaki or Hakutaka) for 13,850 yen (unreserved seat) or 14,380 yen (reserved seat)

From Shin-Osaka Station

What is the Preparation Camp (合宿 Gasshuku)?

Shortly after PII, a Preparation Camp will be held which is a time for the SLs, HLs, and other staff to get to know each other and prepare for the seminars ahead. The location this year will be in Ishikawa Prefecture, most likely Kanazawa. KSS only guarantees housing for all participants for both nights. A small stipend for meals may be provided.

Where will I live during KSS?

Everyone will live together at a teaching center situated within the mountains of Komatsu.

Does the accommodation during KSS have wi-fi?

Yes, but it is very limited in range and speed. We highly recommend you prepare all your necessary documents, videos, and other teaching materials during the Preparation Camp.

Will I have time to prepare for my seminar during KSS?

The amount of preparation time you will have during KSS is very limited. We recommend finishing most, if not all, of your lesson plans beforehand to avoid all-nighters!

My PII homestay ends before KSS starts. Where will I stay for the days between PII and KSS?

You are responsible for securing housing during the few days between PII and KSS. In the past, PII host families have let students stay longer for a per night fee.
